EcoSmart a Big success at Big 5

The proven success of EcoSmart Concrete is being brought to the UAE by EcoSmart through the support of the Government of Canada and in collaboration with leading research, design and construction companies.

EcoSmart Concrete proved to be very popular with Big 5 attendees with hundreds visiting the EcoSmart booth daily throughout the 5-day event. Most were intrigued by the concept of reducing the negative environmental impact of concrete, while improving performance and maintaining cost. Samples of supplementary cementing materials (such as fly ash, slag, silica fume and pumice) were displayed and an ongoing screen presentation explained the many benefits of replacing certain levels of cement with alternatives in concrete.

EcoSmart’s “Concrete for Green Building” seminar during Big 5 was also well attended. Dozens of engineers, architects, construction managers, property developers and others heard speakers discuss green building in the Emirates and specifically how EcoSmart Concrete can further it. Speakers included Michel de Spot, President & CEO – EcoSmart; Maginnis Cocivera, Architect – Busby Perkins+Will; and Denis Beaupré, Technical Manager – Unibeton. For more information please see the seminar agenda and speaker list below. Speaker presentations can be found in our Knowledge Base.

Beyond support given to its case study partners in the UAE, EcoSmart will also offer information to the wider construction industry at events such as Big 5. Please watch for details on EcoSmart’s participation in other conferences and events throughout 2008, including the BuildEx and Globe Business and Environment conferences in Vancouver, Canada and the Building Futures Gulf by BATIMAT in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
