Sustainable materials for sustainable cities : the Masdar view

As part of the Sustainable Building and Concrete Seminar during the 2008 Batimat Tradeshow in Abu Dhabi UAE Awad provided an overview of the Masdar development discussing key features such as population density the layering of the city accessible green spaces within walking distance and transport systems. The project aims to be a closed loop system. Awad further discussed assessment methodologies and opportunities to reduce CO2 emissions during the construction phase.

Building materials : how to tell green from greenwash

As part of the Sustainable Building and Concrete Seminar during the 2008 Batimat Tradeshow in Abu Dhabi UAE Klassen provided an overview of CMHC International and its activities in the United Arab Emirates. In this presentation Klassen discussed how to determine if a product or design is ‘green’ or ‘greenwash’. Key considerations include a life cycle analysis that considers environmental impact at all stages. He also discussed North American organizations involved with green standards or certification.
