This study investigates the implications of using high volume fly ash -hvfa- concrete in skytrain station components particularly in Brentwood and Gilmour stations in Burnaby. The study provides a strategy to optimize the percentage of fly ash in the concrete without affecting the construction schedule recommends using a minimum of 50% fly ash in the footings walls columns slabs and stairways recommends using a minimum of 30% fly ash concrete in precast elements and estimates that costs will be about the same or possibly less than using conventional concrete.
